Burlap Stockings...Bless their heart!

Reading Karianne's post this morning reminded me of something I wanted to share with you.

You see, I have been admiring, pinning, and generally loving up on burlap Christmas stockings for the last couple of years.  How could I possibly resist?  They are a bit natural, a bit bling, a bit classic, a bit gorgeous...ok awholelotta gorgeous!

Like these that Cindy at Cottage Instincts made.
(one look at the header on her blog and I know we are destined to be friends forever!  Any friend of aqua and red is a friend of mine!)

Or these beauties from Bella Inspirations
Burlap and starfish? yes please!

About a month ago, I decided it was time to stop admiring from a distance and actually make a few (six regular size and one small one for Boomer) burlap stockings of my own.

After a brief discussion with the nice lady working in the fabric section of Hobby Lobby about when they would get more non-ugly non-orangeish burlap in, a sweet older woman shopping for felt asked me what on earth I was going to do with burlap.  I proceeded to gush about the beautiful burlap stockings that I've been dreaming aboutAfter a moment of quiet, she said "honey, you know burlap stinks, right?

I told her that I don't mind at all!  The memorizing loveliness of these stockings would overpower any scent given off by the fabric.  She just nodded and pressed on with her day.

A half an hour later, over on the other side of the store (I needed cute wooden letters for my stockings) from behind me I heard, in that stage whisper that old ladies do,

"that young woman over there is going to make stockings out of burlap!  Bless her heart!"

Oh well, at least she called me a young woman!
