We recently remodeled our Mudroom/Entryway. When I say "Mudroom/Entryway" what I mean is we used to call it the Mudroom but now it's so pretty we call it the Entryway.
We learned a lot during the four days it took to complete this project. I wanted to note some of them so I wouldn't forget for next time.
They may help you with your next project too!
DO~ choose a color scheme & fabric that you love
DO NOT~ Get discouraged when you can't figure out what the heck to do with the above mentioned color scheme and fabric
DO~ Believe your friend, Layla, when she says that small rooms are the hardest to decorate and that you can do it!
DO NOT~ Underestimate your project. Remodeling even a small 5' x 12' room can wreak havoc on the entire rest of your home and the crap that you stack on your dining room table will be there for days not hours!
DO~ Recruit helpers. Anyone that will work for ice cream can't be half bad!
DO NOT~ Resist the urge to add more tasks in the middle of the project. This room wouldn't have turned out nearly as nice without the beadboard ceiling, new light and new laminate floors that were decided on in the middle of Day 2. Hubby may grumble a bit about these new additions but he'll eventually see things your way and may even admit that you were right!
DO~ Add a little bling, you know you can't resist.
DO NOT~ Forget about the Oops paint counter, your perfect color may be sitting there waiting for you.
DO~ Include lots of storage because face it, your family has lots of stuff
DO NOT~ Forget to install child locks on above mentioned storage pieces.
DO~ Include things that you love including art that you had to have but previously had no place for and things that bring happy memories to mind.
DO~ Add personal touches and photos of loved ones.
DO NOT~ Let your budget, or lack thereof, keep you from making your home beautiful. Re-purpose pieces you already have (our bench was previously a coffee table), check your storage space for paint left over from other projects (our new wall color is the same color as our dining room), shop garage sales and thrift stores.
DO~ Enjoy your new space, the hard work was worth it :)
